When you retire, your needs change – and that is why VRSEA exists.  We are your voice in the State House advocating for your needs and concerns as a Vermont State retiree.

INDEPENDENT

VRSEA is a membership association of retired Vermont State employees, working together to improve the quality of life for all retired state employees and dependent family members.  We are independent of any other organization and work only for you, to maintain and improve your pension and health care benefits in retirement.

RETIREE ADVOCACY

For many years, VRSEA has been instrumental in sponsoring legislation to protect and enhance members’ benefits.  We employ a full-time lobbyist to work with us during the Legislative session, as your voice in the State House.  VRSEA maintains a voting Trustee on the State Retirement Board.  We provide a forum for our members to weigh in on matters of importance to them.

RETIREE BENEFIT ENHANCEMENTS

Through the support of our members, the voting power of our State Retirement Board member, and the efforts of our lobbyist, VRSEA has achieved many positive outcomes on behalf of State retirees and beneficiaries:

• Elimination of negative pension Cost of Living Adjustments (COLAs) in 2016
• Ensuring minimum pension COLA of 1%
• Full Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) up to 5% for retirees retiring after 6/30/2008
• Increased maximum pension benefit from 50% to 60% for future retirees hired after 6/30/2008
• Future Retiree Spouse’s Medical Premium Reduction (a one-time option at retirement)
• Increased Retiree Life Insurance from $5,000 to $10,000
• Retiree Dental Plan (a one-time option at retirement)
